In a world increasingly shaped by climate change, economic uncertainty, and global disruption, there has never been a more important time for businesses to strive to do better.

At San Miguel, our purpose—to enrich and uplift lives and help build a stronger, more resilient Philippines—guides everything we do. It reflects our belief that being built to last means investing for decades, not cycles, strengthening systems, and governing with discipline. This belief anchors our sustainability agenda and lends clarity to our long-term vision of inclusive, responsible, and durable growth.

Our four sustainability goals—net zero, circularity across our processes, a fully sustainable and ethical supply chain, and the upliftment of our communities—reflect both the scale of our responsibilities and the ambition of our response. These pillars are supported by clear targets across our priority areas, recognizing that the challenges we face demand action, innovation, and sustained commitment.

Over the past three years, since we outlined our sustainability roadmap, we have made meaningful progress. In collaboration with external experts, we developed a structured, data-driven approach to climate risk. This allows us to identify SMC facilities with the greatest exposure to climate hazards and to integrate these risks into our planning and investment decisions.

At the same time, we are strengthening how we maximize the use of resources across our businesses. Through improved water management and expanded reuse and recycling initiatives, we are rethinking how we consume—and conserve—the resources we depend on most.

Being built to last means investing for decades, not cycles, and governing with discipline.

We launched our Water for All campaign to reduce water use across our operations by 50% by 2025. While we did not meet this ambitious target, the effort sharpened our understanding of what works and where challenges remain. We have renewed our commitment to responsible water stewardship and set a new water reduction goal for 2030. Alongside this, we are advancing circularity through increased use of renewable materials—reducing waste and emissions, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening our resilience to climate change.

Our responsibility extends beyond our own operations. We work closely with our suppliers and business partners to uphold ethical practices, protect the environment, and operate transparently, while strengthening local sourcing and, where possible, supporting small and medium enterprises.

Our aim is simple: to ensure that progress reaches the ground, that opportunities are shared and translate into real improvements in daily life.

By raising standards across our supply chain, we encourage capability and continuity, creating lasting value and supporting more resilient communities nationwide.

Beyond reducing our environmental footprint through renewable energy, water stewardship, river rehabilitation, and ecosystem protection—including our biodiversity project in Bulacan—we invest in programs that address everyday needs. Through food security initiatives, urban farming, livelihood support, and community engagement under our Better World initiatives, we work to build resilience not just in our businesses, but in the communities and environments that sustain them.

Upliftment is at the heart of our sustainability agenda. As one of the country’s largest employers, this begins within our own organization—by investing in our people, upgrading skills, and providing stable, meaningful jobs. When our employees grow, our businesses grow with them, strengthening the foundation for long-term success. We also work closely with communities, especially those that have long been left behind. In places like Tondo, where some of the poorest and most vulnerable Filipinos live, we are present and engaged through our Better World centers—creating opportunities and helping families build more secure futures.

Our aim is simple: to ensure that progress reaches the ground, that opportunities are shared, and that growth translates into real improvements in people’s daily lives—especially where they are needed most.

Across the organization, sustainability now guides how our more than 50,000 employees make decisions, invest, and interact every day— strengthening the systems and capabilities that will carry San Miguel forward over the long term.
