San Miguel began local operations in Malaysia with the acquisition of the packaging business of Guolene Packaging Industries Bhd. by subsidiary San Miguel Packaging International Ltd (SMPIL) in 2005, a move which expanded SMPP''s already extensive packaging portfolio to include the production and marketing of plastic films, paperboard, woven bags and industrial laminates. SMPP-Malaysia''s products are also marketed throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
